Rediscoving Wonder Valley, CA
Just one hour North of Palm Springs, California, on the edge of the desert town of 29 Palms, is a little known area called "Wonder Valley" ...a unique valley of gently rolling cresote covered hills surrounded by magnificent and almost otherworldy mountain landscapes. This area first became popular in the 1950's as a haven for city dwellers looking for an authentic Mojave desert weekend "get-away" .and a place toescape to in case of a national emergency.

Many people acquired land from the US government and constructed thousand of perky little cabins in all shapes and sizes. By the 60's, these compact structures seemed to dot the landscapes in all directions. Now mostly forgotten, many of these desert cabins still exist - abide, in various states of repair. Remarkably, some are caught in a kind of "time warp" - complete with their vintage interiors and furnishings intact...as if some city dweller locked the door and never came back!

After almost 50 years, Wonder Valley is now home to an interesting assortment of friendly and colorful residents who enjoy their desert sanctuary and value their privacy most of all. The area is now also home of a blossoming art colony. The valley still looks almost exactly as it did in it's heyday, wide-open and virtually unspoiled, with, of course, the customary desert mix of "fun & funk", collections of old cars, rusty water towers and vintage streamline house trailers. The "march of progress" and overcrowding affecting so much of California, now with nearly 50 million people, places like Wonder Valley have more to offer than ever. The skies are still clear (no smog), fantastic sunrises and sunsets and "planetarium quality" nights. You can cruise into town on a two-land black-top highway with almost no traffic. Check out the quaint antique shops and art galleries; grocery shopping at the original Ranch Market; explore Joshua Tree National Park or take in a movie at the drive-in.

You can still relive the past and prepare for the future: A limited number of choice parcels of land, vintage cabins, ranchos and fine homes are waiting to be acquired by a new bunch of city dwellers, wanting to escape the crush of the city. If you like simple pleasures, you'll like these features: Relax on your patio in complete solitude and take in the 360 degree mountain and desert vistas.

Star-gaze the heavens at night thru a telescope or cozy-up in front of a wood burning fireplace. Come and visit for a day, week or a lifetime!
